Versailles


With its Fascinating "Le Grand Siècle" atmosphere, Versailles is one of the most prestigious monuments of the world's artistic heritage and certainly the finest and most complete achievement of the 17th Century French Art. King Louis XIII's former hunting lodge, was enlarged by Louis XIV The Sun King.
He engaged the great masters creators of Vaux le Vicomte.
The Royal Apartments, The Hall of Mirrors, The Royal Opera, The Grand Trianon (retreat of Louis XIV from the stiff etiquette of the court), Le Petit Trianon with an English style garden (created for Louis XV and Madame de Pompadour and the famous queens hamlet added for Queen Marie Antoinette),Versailles is the model of formal gardens 'a la Française'.

Distance from Paris : 22 Kms.

Closed on Mondays, Jan. 1st, May 1st, August 15 and December 25.


The best days to visit Versailles during spring and summer are Saturdays and Sundays (Musical Fountain shows between 11 & 12h and between 3h30 & 5h30 p.m.).

How to get there :

On your own, by train : Take the Metro line 6 at Kléber, in front of Raphael hotel and get off at «Bir-Hakeim» where you will switch to train RER C : «Champ de Mars - Tour Eiffel» to «Versailles Rive Gauche» (last stop).
The duration of the trip is roughly 45 mn, from the hotel to the Palace. The trains leave every 15 minutes, from the early morning till late at night.
The price for a round trip ticket is around 6 €.

Once in Versailles, it takes only 10 minutes to walk from the train station to the Palace.

At the entrance of the Palace, you will find two lines : one for visitors without tickets and another one for visitors with advance tickets or Museum passes.

Even if you have advance tickets or Museum Passes, you may have to queue a little bit but advance tickets are highly recommended because the line is much shorter.

Admission is free for children under 18 but requires to queue to get a free ticket.


Tickets and rates at the entrance of the Palace of Versailles :

  • Ticket for the Palace only : 15 euros; To visit the Hall of Mirrors, the Grand Apartments of the King and Queen, King’s Bedchamber... Temporary exhibitions + audio guide included.

  • The passport : 25 euros; to discover the whole Versailles Estate : the Palace + grounds, Trianon palaces and Marie Antoinette’s Estate + Musical Fountain Show (on week-ends April to October); temporary exhibitions + audio guide included.

Advance tickets available at our desk or travel/ticketing agencies or tourism offices :

  • Palace only : about 17 euros
  • Passport : about 28 euros.





On your own, by car : Take the Périphérique (Ring Road) and the A 13 motorway from “Porte d’Auteuil”.
Take the first exit to Versailles center.
The duration of the trip is roughly 30 mn.
Rental car agencies are available near the hotel (Hertz, Avis).

Possibility to stop at Giverny for a visit of the Monet’s house and garden on the way.

We can provide professional guides in English (many other languages are also available) for your private and thorough visit of the Palace.
The prices for 4 hours (2 hours of transportation + 2 hours of visit) are as follows :
  • for 2 people : 169 euros per person
  • for 3 to 6 people : 119 euros per person
  • for 7 or 8 people : 89 euros person.

Places to have lunch :

La Flottille, located inside the Park of Versailles, in front of the Grand Canal.

Many traditionnal bistrots (le Bistrot du Boucher, la Marée, le V. etc) are located all around the Place du Marché (“Outside Market Square”), within 10 minutes’ walk from the Palace. This charming square with its daily market is worth seeing. Many outdoor terraces in summer.

La Brasserie du Théâtre (near the Palace) and l’Angélique (1* Michelin) are also good options.
