Guided Visit of the Louvre in a Small Group

A museum is a whole world in itself', and the Louvre museum is a living and far-reaching one. It is, nowadays, the most visited and biggest of the capital, exhibiting 210 000 m2 of treasures. Located at the heart of Paris, by the right shore of the bank, it traces a perspective of several kilometers going through the Tuileries garden, the Concorde place, the Champs-Élysées avenue and the 'Arc de Triomphe' to finish by the 'Grande Arche de la Défense'.

Old residence of the kings of France, this Capetian palace benefited from several extensions along the centuries before becoming the national museum, during the French Revolution, in 1793. In 1988, to grant it even more space, further works were commissioned to the architect Leoh Ming Pei, who gave birth to the famous crystal pyramid, of over 20 m. in height, that is nowadays the museum entrance.

The Louvre collection, counting with over 35 000 pieces, consists of works predating 1848 (for works after that date we shall go to the Musée d'Orsay), distributed among 8 departments: Oriental antiquities, Egyptian antiquities, Greek, Roman and Etruscan antiquities, Islamic art, Sculpture, Art objects, Painting and Graphic Arts. In its silent poetic performance we find participants such as the Sphinx or the sarcophagi by the side of many a worldwide known masterwork : Leonardo da Vinci's 'Gioconda', Veronese's 'Wedding at Cana', the Venus de Milo or 'The Coronation of Napoleon I'.
