Excursions in France

Dijon-Beaune- Burgundy

Chablis, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Beaune, Mercurey, Pouilly-Fuissé .... all of Burgundy’s most prestigious wines are lovingly grown and produced by growers and merchants who are happy to welcome you to their vineyard or cellar.
Would you love to sample beautiful French wines? Discover the vineyards of the Cote de Nuits district and admire the amazing villages along the way. The history and charm will amaze you. Learn about different wines on offer while visiting two cellars and there's plenty of wine tastings to enjoy.
Situated in the heart of Burgundy, the Cote d'Or is worthy of its name, the Golden Ridge. The autumn vineyards are rich with a myriad of colors.
When to go : April or May is good, as is harvest time from mid to late September--there are usually harvest festivals around this time.
Where can I taste and is it free?:  Look for signs that say "degustation" for tasting. 'En vente directe' means they have direct sales and “vin a’ emporter” means they sell wine for you to take with you. Many villages in the wine country have tasting rooms within the village, sometimes representing more than one winery. There may or may not be a small charge for tasting in these places, but remember that a charge may aleviate the ominous hard sell tactics used by some organizations and wineries.
You'll need a car (or at least a bicycle) to get to most of the wineries. Tours of the facility or meetings with the best  and most prestigious winemaker are more of a problem--you may need to contact the winery with credentials to speak to the winemaker or get a tour.
